How Fixipedia works

Help us fill in the story behind every name.

1. Find the record

Look up any waypoint by name, airport, or location.

2. Add the story

Know the origin? Add it and help fill in the map.

3. Explore

Dive into the stories behind the names and see what you discover.

Submit an origin

Share the story behind a waypoint or fix.

Send a name-origin lead for maintainer review. Submissions may be reviewed, edited, and published in Fixipedia after the source is checked, so please keep them public-source friendly and avoid private, personal, sensitive, or confidential information.

Submission received

Thanks for helping fill in the story.

Your origin lead was submitted for review. If it checks out, it can become part of the public Fixipedia archive.

About Me

Why I started Fixipedia.

Fixipedia exists because so many aviation waypoint names have stories behind them--but unless you're local, those stories are often lost.

The idea is simple: no one knows their home airport better than the people who fly in and out of it every day.

By bringing that local knowledge together, Fixipedia becomes a collaborative effort to preserve and share the meaning behind the names we all see, but don't always understand.
